Friends of Gipsy Hill’s 5th anniversary, and the official opening of Gipsy Hill Station’s step-free side entrance!

On Saturday 13th May 2023 Friends of Gipsy Hill celebrated two important milestones: the FoGH 5th anniversary, and the official opening of the step-free side entrance to Gipsy Hill Station on Sainsbury Road!

MP for Dulwich and West Norwood Helen Hayes joined the FoGH Committee for the event, which marked 5 years of campaigning by FoGH for the step-free side entrance to be formally recognised and signposted. After the ribbon-cutting, FoGH volunteers were invited to celebrate the milestone birthday in the Gipsy Hill Station Garden, enjoying a glass of Pimms and a slice of celebration cake amongst the spring blooms.

Alongside Helen Hayes MP, Friends of Gipsy Hill were thrilled to welcome Cllr Andy Simmons (Dulwich Wood Ward, Southwark), Cllr Christine Banton (Gipsy Hill Ward, Lambeth), Cllr Rebecca Spencer (Gipsy Hill Ward, Lambeth) and Ekaterina Makolova (GTR Station Manager) for the official opening of the step-free entrance to Platform 1. Not only was the sun shining and local celebrity Fanny the Gipsy Hill Cat in attendance, but the sustainable red ribbon will be turned into bows ready for the 2023 Gipsy Hill Community Christmas Tree!

As always, a huge thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers who have put so much time, energy and love into improvements around Gipsy Hill Station over the past 5 years, and into creating and maintaining the beautiful (and bountiful!) Gipsy Hill Station Garden. We’re excited to see what the next 5 years brings! Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming events, gardening opportunities, and future projects, or contact Friends of Gipsy Hill to see how you could get involved.
