What is it?
In collaboration with Christ Church Open Door Kitchen and Paxton Green Time Bank, Friends of Gipsy Hill initiated the Dear Neighbour campaign in the winter of 2020. Each Christmas we ask if the community of Gipsy Hill can help local people who are having a difficult time by writing a Christmas card, giving a gift, or making a donation.
As a result of these small but thoughtful gestures we have been able to share some festive cheer these past couple of Christmase, alongside the seasonal deliveries that Christ Church Open Door Kitchen and Paxton Green Time Bank make yearly.
How can you help?
As we near the festive season please keep an eye out on our blog and social media for news on drop-off times and locations. Want to reach out before then? Drop us an email
Christmas cards
Even something as small as receiving a Christmas card can bring joy in the festive season. Homemade or shop-bought, addressed simply Dear Neighbour or with a personal note or drawing inside, each and every card is welcome. All we ask is that you leave the envelope unsealed.
Christmas presents
Gifts should be new, sealed items (up to a suggested value of £10). No need to wrap – just drop-off and we will arrange the rest. Each year we mostly need gifts for adults (and more for men than for women) as many of those being supported are older adults living alone. From socks to chocolate, no gift is too small.
Donations
In the run up to Christmas donations can be made via PayPal and we will then purchase gifts from local stores on your behalf.
