Our new arrival at GIPSY HILL!
HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped with our new GIPSY HILL mural… and made it so lovely and locally inspired! It’s been a huge team effort from Friends of Gipsy Hill, Lionel Stanhope, Southern Rail and with special thanks to our epic supporters Network Rail for their funding. It’s been great to see this community project at all stages from concept… to wording… to colour schemes… to funding… to chasing (thanks Steve!)… to actually HAPPENING! It’s an extraordinary sign for one really SPECIAL place and station (and station cat)! Working collaboratively we are (literally) bridging community spirit and togetherness!
Here’s our story…
Starting from community engagement…
And multiple on-site meetings…
And concept drawings (thanks Steve!)…
To more meetings… and funding bids… to… epic help from Network Rail… to inspiration and options… (did you know Lionel’s first station sign was for Herne Hill).
To engaging locally and finding out local community ideas…
To getting closer to our design…
… and never forgetting Fanny the Gipsy Hill cat…
To experimenting…
To more engagement…
To seeing it take form…
…and to see actually HAPPENNING!
AND FINISHED!
A little about Friends of Gipsy Hill team…
This mural is part wider Gipsy Hill station area improvements commissioned with the help of Lambeth and local community volunteers. We’ve helped create Gipsy Hill’s ‘Station Square’ with a new landmark tree, planting the verges and new pocket gardens areas. It’s lovely to this place allow new community happenings, such as festive carol’s, and a new Xmas tree too. Read more here!
We have been doing parallel projects in Gipsy Hill too, supporting our community businesses with new lamp post banners. These installations epic community artwork submissions! Read more here!
Ongoing we’ve been supporting local area tidy ups, and have a range of projects that include: a community notice board along Gipsy Road, and soon to come a community Heritage Trail. … and while we plan for Gipsy Hill Village Fete 2021 we are reviewing plans for other community happenings later this year too.
… and… if we can find further funding… we have the potential for a Salters Hill bridge mural too!
